Captain Dick's Archery Bulletin Board

While I have a general bulletin board on the home site, I do so much archery stuff that is of interest to such a specialized group, I thought I would keep this Archery Bulletin Board functioning in this section. It's for pictures and things I want to share, but which are not worth building a permanent new web page for or which aren't ready to go to a permanent page yet.

Scrap Leather Bowcase

A friend asked me to help sew a leather bowcase for him. I have some sewing machines in my collection that, while not saddle machines, will handle moderate leather work, so I agreed. However, it seemed a good idea to do a trial run. My wife had a sack of leather scraps left over from a marine upholstery job a few years back. I claimed them to to see what I could get. No pieces were very large, so I ended up making kind of scrapwork bow case. This leather is coe cue nsiderably thicker than what my friend has for his case, plus is slick on one side where his is sueded both sides. These scraps were also crumpled in a bag for a long time, so getting them to lie flat and be cut into usabble pieces was a chore, too.

I started out trying to do this job on a recently traded for vintage Singer industrial electdric machine, but it would obviously have taken me some time and a lot of scraps to get myself used to it and able to control the motor, so I went back to my old faithful Pfaff 134 industrial treadle. The final result is pretty good, if I say so myself, and gives me a lot more confidence to approach working on someone else's leather.
